The new movie “Burn After Reading” has an all-star, cast, wonderful acting, and a great trailer. In my opinion, what it lacks is an ending. That’s not fair, but I did walk out of the theatre wondering what that was all about and whether this was a story that needed to be told. In a movie revolving tangentially around the CIA, even the CIA was confused what was going on.

It is difficult to describe the movie without giving away too much. But for me at the point where one of the few sympathetic characters was killed I felt the movie spiraled into a confusing mess. I started to realize that I did not care about most of these very flawed people. Most of the characters are unfaithful, angry , profane or cold. Most of them are some combination of the four.

This is not a bad film. My daughter saw it with me and liked it. It has moments of humor. It has good performances by the cast which included George Clooney, John Malcovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Brad Pitt. No doubt some people will love this movie but personally I think the title of the script provided the appropriate instructions.
